Emerge RI seeks to tackle gender gap in elected representation

Rhode Island National Organization for Women Endorses Dawn Euer for Senate District 13

The Rhode Island National Organization for Women (RI NOW) has announced their endorsement of Dawn Euer in the Special Election for the open senate seat in District 13, representing Jamestown and Newport. The endorsement is the first endorsement officially issued by any group for the upcoming special election.

Newport resident Dawn Euer announced that she is running for state senate in District 13, the seat vacated by Senate President Teresa Paiva Weed. 

She is the second person to announce her candidacy in the last two days following Newport City Councilor John Florez’s announcement on Thursday.

Newport resident Dawn Euer, a community organizer and lawyer, announced today she is a candidate for state senate in District 13, representing Newport and Jamestown.

Senator Teresa Paiva Weed announced on March 22nd that effective May 1, 2017, she will accept the presidency of the Hospital Association of Rhode Island (HARI), a statewide non-profit organization dedicated to assisting member hospitals to meet the health care needs of Rhode Islanders. Her resignation as Senate President has occured, her resignation from the Senate is expected to happen next week. There will be a special election for Jamestown and Newport within 90 days of her stepping down from her Senate seat, the election would likely happen after this session comes to an end (June/July).
